Barbecue Pulled Jackfruit

A hearty and delicious pulled jackfruit sandwich in barbecue sauce.

Serves: 5-6
Ingredients
  • 2 cans jackfruit in brine or water (not syrup)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup of your favourite barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup of water
  • Buns
  • Mayonnaise
  • Coleslaw, red onions, lettuce or whatever sandwich fillings you like
Instructions
  1. Rinse and drain the canned jackfruit and place it in a bowl.
  2. Add your brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt and stir until well combined.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium heat in a large skillet and fry the jackfruit for 3 minutes.
  4. Next add 1 cup of barbecue sauce and reduce the heat to low.
  5. Cover and simmer it for about 30 minutes adding the ¼ cup of water to thin the sauce if needed. Stir occasionally.
  6. Once the jackfruit has softened, remove it from the heat and pull it apart with 2 forks.
  7. Serve it on a bun with all your favourite fixings!
